I hope your visit is full of love and laughter.

The good news is that Kitty's anemia has corrected itself for the time being. Our hematologist was surprised when he looked her numbers and they were well within the normal range. They had been moderate before she went into the hospital, then began to slowly slide down. It looks as if her new heart valve did the trick. She will be re-tested in three weeks and then again in six weeks to be sure the numbers are not fluke. Now we have to tackle her COPD and the weakness in her legs, which have been giving out now and then.

The bad news is that Erin tested positive for COVID. She felt yucky the first two days but is recovering nicely.

Mark is in Tampa interning at a reptile park. His first two days were spent doing regular custodial work. On day 2 he was bitten in the foot by a rhinoceros iguana; It only bit his shoe but he's counting that as one in the bite column. On day three he was releasing captive alligators. Yesterday he sent a photo of him holding an alligator. Could he get any closer to Mark heaven? I think not.

Christina has signed up to interpret at summer school several hours a day. She's hoping that will not cut into her beach time.

Again, not much reading this week. A few short stories and a twee graphic novel I used for my FFB.

Ditto, television. Kitty is addicted to the Platinum Jubilee so I have been watching a lot of YouTube clips about the royals...Megan is a monster, Harry is being bullied, Philip was never a screw-up, let's not talk about Andrew, poor dear, The queen is gracious, Charles is not as much as a stick as you might think, Camilla (God help us)is becoming a fashion icon for the dowdy, Kate can't help being perfect, Louis is adorable and not a whiner.
Charlotte is precious, George is becoming the perfect little man, Anne choose her own path, Edward is not a wimp, Sophie is one of the rocks in the royal family, let's forget about Fergie and mention the Yorkies only briefly, and why did poor Diana have to die? yada, yada, yada. To add insult to injury, I now have to wait until July 1 to catch the rest of STRANGER THINGS.

Oh, and twenty minutes before we arrived home after seeing the hematologist, a bear was walking down our street.

Have a great week, Patti!

Hope you're having a good time in the D. C. area.

We saw POTUS on Broadway yesterday. Fun show, if rather silly, but I must say that Jackie really loved it. Good cast - Julie White, Vanessa Williams, Rachel Dratch, Suzy Nakamura, Julianne Hough and the always outrageous Lea Delaria. It was a farce.

Tomorrow is Jackie's second cataract surgery. The only problem with this one is, we have to be in the city at 6:45 am for an 8:30 op, which means catching a 5:45 am express bus.

We watched the Amazon Prime documentary on LUCY AND DESI, which was pretty good and quite interesting, though I did know most of it already.

UPDATE: Since they never called from the hospital on Friday, we (naturally) assumed that we had to report as told at 6:45. But she just got a message telling her that her report time is...9:00! Yay. What a difference.

I think we might have seen the last Miss Marple with Joan Hickson on Saturday. This was the one based on Gene Tierney (THE MIRROR CRACK'D FROM SIDE TO SIDE), with Claire Bloom as the American actress and Barry (PETROCELLI) Newman as her husband. Whatever happened to him? We'll finish the last two BOSCH: LEGACY episodes tonight. We're rewatching the first series of BORGEN and enjoying it again. Spotted another SEASIDE HOTEL regular (Mr. Frigh) in the latest episode. Really enjoying the way the women are bonding in HACKS. THE FIRST LADY? OK, but nothing special. We were trying to think of who they might do in a second series, but unless they are prepared to go all the way back (Dolley Madison? Mary Todd Lincoln?) I just don't see it. Laura Bush? Mamie Eisenhower? Pat Nixon? I think not.

Not much going on here.

I have been reading THE LONG GOODBYE by Raymond Chandler this last week, and just finished it last night. I enjoyed the book; it seemed different from other books in that series. He did not really have an official case. We will watch the film with Elliott Gould again. We have always enjoyed it, but now I want to see how much the story was changed. It has been a long time since we last watched it.

Watching: We are continuing THE BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES and SHAKESPEARE & HATHAWAY. Also BOSCH: LEGACY. Enjoying all of them.

Mostly excellent news, Jerry! Glad the reschedule came through, Jeff. Good luck with all the impending medical procedures and healing (and hoping all bites shall be so inconsequential). And Jubilee, too, will pass.

Leigh Brackett (scriptwriter for the film) definitely intentionally took some liberties with THE LONG GOODBYE even before Robert Altman encouraged some improvisation, Tracy...

Hope it's an excellent visit, Patti.

Still enjoying THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE among my Sunday "stories"...took a look at some early Janet Leigh films on the dvr, one having awaited my review for a couple of years...she was talented and lovely, though both films were minor enough to be purged. JUST THIS ONCE and FEARLESS FAGAN, both released in 1952.

Now, with both Alice and Laura out of hospitals and on the mend, we have to worry a little about Ninja, who seems off her feed...

But why did she sleep with that obnoxious jerk who was her so-called best friend's boyfriend?

Watching Stranger Things. Wish they would lose the Sinclair character. He seems like an afterthought. Watched Pistols which I enjoyed. Still watching Barry and John Oliver.
Read Dan Chaon's Sleepwalk. And a bunch of short stories.
Saw Men and Crimes of the Future and liked both but they are not for everyone. Rewatched Licorice Pizza and Last Night in Soho.
My cataract surgery is the last monday of June. Can't wait. My right eye is really blurry and it's a nuisance. Just lost my ride though. Turns out he will be away on vacation. I'll figure something out.

Boy, Blogspot can have its annoyances, while I'm sleepily typing on a collapsing Mac.

Reposting, since I attempted to post on the wrong login and Blogspot ate my text:

Steve: best of luck with that Other Eye, and other transpo!

Jeff: (spoilers of sorts, but close to meaningless without having seen the series): in part because she was drunk, and in part because she and her best-friends couple were clearly developing a kind of triangle relation or two. Also, she was more than a little disappointed how little her 20-something TT swain was behaving like the 40-something Henry she had been interacting with in her past. The Desmin Borges character was nervously abrasive, in part because he was tantalizingly close, he felt, to having his greatest current romantic desire come to pass as possibly a longterm thing, and suddenly she has a boyfriend. And when the Borges character meets 20-something Henry, he recognizes the latter as the apparently controlling, maybe abusive jackass he confronted as a stranger in the street not too long before, as Henry pursued his blond rocker girlfriend as she strode away from Henry, they in the midst of a heated public argument...the Borges character being something of a Samaritan in that situation.

The conversation between the blond pre-Claire womanfriend and the 40-something Henry was the most striking bit of a good episode for me.

And, then, Jeff, there's this (and she's actually Clare):

Just by chance, Katie was in Washington, D.C. visiting her cousin who works for the NRLB. And, Katie got to see a friend in D.C. she went to college with.

I finally finished THE LINCOLN LAWYER on Netflix. Loved it!

I read three Library books...and four more arrived for pick-up. I can't keep up!

No going to the movies this week. I'm on the bubble about the Elvis movie. I'm preditored out so no dinosaurs for me.

Stay safe!

Hope you are having a great time, Patti.

Looks like the medical news is all good. We had eye doc appointments last Friday. Scott is fine. My vision has shifted a little bit so new glasses for driving as well as reading. My eyes look very good, in his opinion, and no sign at all of any macular degeneration. Always a worry as it runs in both sides of my family. Women and men always get it. the question is when. Just like for the men, they always get prostate cancer.

And on the 23rd I will get my PSA checked and other things as I do a physical for the first time in two years. So will Scott. With Covid, the doc was skipping them unless you had something you knew was going on. So, with them back on, and Scott having a couple of issues, we are doing it asap which means the 23rd.

And the plan is to be vertical and on my feet for the next Noir at the Bar: Dallas on June 30th. Joe Lansdale, Harry Hunsicker, Kathleen Kent, and a bunch of other folks, including yours truly, are a scheduled to read.

Meanwhile, it is June and the heat is on in my part of Texas and all across the state. The power grid is still a flaming disaster so rolling blackouts are a possibility. Hoping NOT!

What a nice treat to return to your news. So glad to hear good news from most of us, especially Kitty. Steve-I have a driver if it turns out you need one. I saw PETITE MAMAN and though puzzled until I had time to read more about it, I liked it. Heard Jamie Raskin speak-my friends live in his district in MD. Boy, what he said was truly frightening.
Went to the Washington Folk Festival, which was fun. Had dinner with an old friend. Saw my great nephew and niece. Also my brother and rest of family. My trip into Ronald Reagan was so bad, they gave us 5000 miles. Our gate was struck by lightening for one thing. It may be a while before I fly again.
Reading THE SECRET LIFE OF GROCERIES, which is non-fiction and interesting. Nice to have Kevin stop by.

Good luck with those adventures, Kevin--NOIR AT THE BAR sounds promising...and glad that things are mostly good, if alarming in part, Patti. The Folk Festival is usually pleasant, at least, given the relatively strong folk and bluegrass community in DC...
