Short Story Wednesday: Backrub from Tom Perotta's collection Nine Inches

I read several stories in hopes of finding one, but none of them were great this week. How about you?

Every week I try and remember what day it is and what is scheduled, but every week it seems that Wednesday catches me by surprise.

I'd definitely go with Alice Munro's "The Bear Came Over the Mountain," the final story in her HATESHIP, FRIENDSHIP, COURTSHIP, LOVESHIP, MARRIAGE collection. A professor in a long-married couple who has had a number of affairs over the years, has to deal with his wife's Alzheimers. When he first visits her after 30 days, he discovers that she doesn't seem to know who he is, but has formed an attachment to another man. This was filmed as AWAY FROM HER by actress Sarah Polley, who also wrote the screenplay, with Julie Christie and Gordon Pinsent as the couple. Christie and Polley (for her screenplay) got Oscar nominations for it.

Loved the story and the movie. Polley needs to make more movies. She's got a great touch.

I have not run into a collection with no appealing stories yet, but I have worried about that happening. I worry about the strangest things.

I really need to read some stories by Alice Munro, especially since I am doing a Canadian Reading Challenge.
