THINGS THAT ARE MAKING ME HAPPY

We got out to see a play yesterday. (The Play That Goes Wrong) It was a slapstick sort of thing-not really our sort of play--but it was nice to get out for a few hours. And I have to thank good friends for taking us to the Fisher Theater in Detroit to see it.

Got to have dinner with my son and his family Friday night in Detroit's Greektown. The streets were filled with people. The food was so-so and I am sure Detroit's idea of Greek food doesn't correspond with Athens' but it was familiar, warm, comfortable.

Watching Patrick Melrose. I admire Benedict Cumberbatch's acting but boy, is it a downer.  I will be relieved to be done with it.

Kevin got to play a scrimmage hockey game at the new Little Caesar's Hockey Arena. A thrill for his parents and him.

What about you guys?

Sounds like you've had a couple of nice nights out, Patti, and that's great!

Western New York faces more snow and cold this week. But Diane and I managed to see three movies despite the icy conditions.

I know what you mean about those PATRICK MELROSE episodes. I read Edward St. Aubyn's novels that the series is based on. Very dark.

With arctic temperatures lately, the heated steering wheel on our new Nissan Rogue has come in handy! Heated mirrors, too!

We watched one episode of PATRICK MELROSE, the one where he goes to New York to get his father's ashes. That was enough. I prefer him as Doctor Strange.

We're still watching Netflix (mostly) and Amazon Prime. My favorite current show is RUSSIAN DOLL, which I am doling out so we don't finish it too quickly. We've also been watching movies we missed (and one George recommended), DETECTIVE DEE: THE FOUR HEAVENLY KINGS - we much preferred the previous one, ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, DEADPOOL 2 - a real hoot.

Weather is up and down, but so far (fingers crossed) we've avoided any big snowstorms. I am driving occasionally, in the neighborhood so far.

I continue to make progress with the shoulder rehab. We'll see how it goes. I still miss Florida.

- I am quite happy we have a working snow blower.
- I am happy to be done with the cold that sent me home for a couple days last week.
- I went to Library Legislative Day last week. I am happy that just a handful of members have been working over the past few years to successfully increase funding and support for libraries in WI.
- I've been watching season 2 of THE PUNISHER on Netflix. A CLOCKWORK ORANGE has nothing on the ultraviolence of PUNISHER.
- A few seconds ago I had the great pleasure to turn off a song by Kid Rock.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the play. I'm not sure why you'd hang on with a series that's dark and depressing. Barbara overdid it in Barre class at 24 Hour Fitness, and hurt her left knee, so now it's the wrap, elevate and ice routine. Lots of Advil, per Dr. orders. It's improving, slowly.

Sorry you've left FFB, but we hope things will improve for you without the pressure of doing it each week.

I'm in one of those "Which book shall I read next?" places. I've picked up 4 or 5 and put them back on the shelf or sent them back to the library. Last night I tried another, and it may stick. The weather guessers say today will be wintery mix, so we'll see what really happens. Oh, Barbara just told me - it's just getting light - there's some snow on our deck.

Forgot to mention: I got back to reading more. I've been watching a lot of TV and movies on my tablet and was kinda stuck with some not so inspiring novels. I read a comics compilation
Check, please!. Book 1, #Hockey!" and Sara Gran's INFINITE BLACKTOP.

Gran's novel was really, really good. The best of her three Claire DeWitt novels.

Saturday it was cold. We caught a matinee of the new Liam Neeson movie, not good, but as you said, good to get out. After the show, we ate at a small table in a restaurant's bar. The sun came out and streamed through the Venetian blinds and felt good.

Always good to get out for me, Elgin. I have been debating seeing it after his racist remarks.
I am amazed that Gran's book isn't doing better. The reviews were outstanding. Is it a little too quirky. People don't always like quirky although I do.
I have been in a book funk for a long time. Just put five on hold at the library. Hope one comes in.
I am watching RUSSIAN DOLL again. From online chat about it, I think I missed things.

I am happy that we are doing a bit of work on our small garden area in front of our condo. We have let it go too long, and I don't have as much energy nowadays.

I am happy I have just had a four day weekend, although it is about to end.

I am happy that I just finished a book I loved and now I get to pick the next book. I always have a good time picking a book to read.

My husband has two of Gran's books and is planning to buy the third one in that series. I haven't tried them yet, but I will try the first in the series soon.

I liked the first one a LOT more than the second.

Haven't read the third yet, Jeff. Perhaps a lesser second kept people away from the third. I love COME CLOSER and DOPE but haven't tried these.

I have the new one on hold.

We just finished watching the third season of BERLIN STATION and I saw her name on many episodes.
