Glad we were able to get to Kevin's rock concert on Saturday. A long ride but worth it to see those kids rock their hearts out. He went straight from there to his hockey game, which they won 6-2. Where do they get the energy? And I mean his parents as much as him.

Although I did not like STAN AND OLLIE very much, I admired the acting  of Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly. They deserved a more dynamic script. Surely they must have had more routines than the movie showed. Or maybe not. It seemed like a very low budget movie because we didn't even get many location shots.

Glad we are having more sun than usual even though the high is below zero on Wednesday.

Enjoyed SEX EDUCATION on Netflix. The kids in it are sweet and most of the adults are too. Gillian Anderson has turned out to be a very versatile actress.

What about you?

The concert sounds like so much fun, Patti. I'm glad you were able to see it, too.

That Kevin is turning out to be quite a talented kid. Congratulations to all of you.

As for me, we'll see what the doctor says on Wednesday, but I have definitely made a lot of progress with my arm and shoulder, what with twice weekly physical therapy. The next step (once I get there) will go from flexibility to strengthening. It's a slow process (especially this awful winter) but I can do a lot more (not drive yet). I'm holding off Jackie from making definite plans for future trips until I know how long this will take, but another trip to New Orleans will probably be first, and we have bought several sets of concert tickets (Jackson Browne, Santana) for the Spring and Summer. One thing which has helped with having to rely on the buses is a new app that allows you to see where the bus is and how soon it will arrive, so no more standing around for half an hour in the freezing cold waiting for a bus that isn't coming.

We enjoyed the latest series (3) of TRAVELERS. Jackie is finding series 4 of the Montreal police show 19-2 to be rather depressing. This is the final series done in English. I am not enjoying series 3 of VICTORIA as much as the first two. The changes they have made from the facts for dramatic purposes, presumably, are often ridiculous. Lord Palmerston, the very annoying Foreign Secretary (and future Prime Minister) was 67 in 1851, yet is played as a bedroom-hopping dandy by 40 year old Laurence Fox. Speaking of Fox, both his father James and uncle Edward guest starred in recent episodes (recent to us, that is, as we are six or so years behind) of Deb's favorite show, MIDSOMER MURDERS. The British have always seemed less snobbish about such things. We are in season 14, with the new Barnaby. After initial skepticism, we are very much enjoying THE KOMINSKY METHOD with Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin. I also like that the episodes are only half an hour long. THE FABULOUS MRS. MAISEL ended on an interesting note. I guess you wouldn't call her the most devoted parent.

I've been catching up on DETECTIVE DEE movies. Entertaining action!

With the Polar Vortex about to hit us later this week, Diane and I are running errands now so we can hunker down when the sub-zero temperatures arrive.

I've finally caught up on my Library books. And, I've reduced my AMAZON buying. But, I still have stacks of books waiting to be read!

I liked THE KOMINSKY METHOD too. Nice that they are making shows for the senior citizen crowd.
Waiting for a big snowfall right now, George. I am sick of winter already. Of course, I always am.

George, we're doing the same as far as stocking up on food goes, but we can only buy as much as we can carry home, unless we have it delivered. The problem is, my appointment in the city with the doctor is Wednesday at noon, and that is the day the Polar Vortex arrives. We are also returning library books a few at a time. Luckily, I have been able to renew most of them as often as needed.

I am happy I don't live further north. Although I miss New England and its four seasons I'm just getting too old for that @#$%. It's cold enough here on the Florida Panhandle.

Although it was too cold to go beaching yesterday, the weather was perfect for a Cool Girls Club meeting. Although not a Cool Girl I am tolerated because the meeting was held at our place and because I made chili. The ladies talked and did crafts and ate and had a good time. For my part (along with making chili) I hid behind the computer screen.

Erin (now a junior) has her first part-time job. She's working a Chic-Fil-A, where a number of her friends also work. She seems to like it. She'll turn 17 next week. Where does the time go?

Mark's three roommates did not return to school after the Christmas break so he had his dorm room all to himself. The school decided to move him to a single on another floor, allowing them to refurbish his old floor. He likes his new digs well enough and says that rumors are flying about his snake. Officially, people are being quiet about the snake but we'll see how long that lasts.

I'm happy the shut-down is over and that Trump's bullying did not win. Too many people were adversely affected by the shut-down, though, and we will probably have more drama and anguish in a few weeks. The majority of the country are placing the blame where it should be and that gives me hope.

Binged watched the second season of THE PUNISHER. Lots of blood, violence, and questionable morality but overall I enjoyed it thanks to the nuanced characters of the two main villains. Television, the internet, and some good books have helped as we hibernate during this cold spell.

Stay warm, Patti.

Thanks, Jerry. It will be hard to do for the next five days but then the temps look a lot better.

Jerry, my nephew in Scottsdale also has his first job at Chick-Fil-A. Then he got a second part-time job at a supermarket (Fry's?), which he enjoys even more.

Like George, we've been watching movies too, though we disagree. We watched EIGHTH GRADE, which made me even more thankful that we're old and not in middle school these days. The other was ROMA, which we loved. I've always liked black & white movies, which didn't hurt.

Went yesterday to buy groceries to last me a few days with the artic temps coming this week. Thanks Canada.
Watched Three Identical Strangers last night. Heartbreaking what was done to these kids.
Won't patronize Chick-Fil-A. Owners are homophobic and Trump supporters.
Put off watching The Kominsky Method . I was skeptical since it was created by the same man who did Two and a Half Men which I hated.
Been enjoying True Detectice which so far is much better than the second season.

Steve, when you work for Chick-Fil-A you know the manager has it out for you when he schedules you for a Sunday.

That concert sounds great, glad you were there!

We're pretty lucky here with the weather, mid-40s highs, mid-30s lows, clear except some morning fog. We've yet to have a freeze here, one of the warmest Winters on record. Nice now but does not bode well for the Summer which will likely be much hotter than normal, as was last year. We have had some very high winds, which we don't like.

I haven't been doing as much reading as usual, just can't seem to stay focused on anything. I keep trying one book after another, then putting it down after 20-30 pages. Something will grab me soon, I expect.

Yes THREE IDENTICAL STRANGERS was terrific. Can't believe it wasn't nominated for an oscar.

Late Response
We finally got the Scout Troop calendar for 2019 finalized this past Sunday. That took a load off my back.
The Polar Vortex is currently pushing it's way through Wisconsin and school is cancelled for today and tomorrow. I'm glad our house has working heat and we had no electrical outages like some other towns in Wisconsin. I'm glad my wife's work was closed for the day and she could stay home and not risk slippery roads and -25 morning temps or use a vacation day. I'm glad I am able to walk to work and open the library for those library customers willing to get out and about.

Glad you could go, Patti.

Also glad I live in North Texas where we missed the Pola Vortex this go around. However, not only are the bluebonnets in bloom far to our Southwest in the Big Bend area, we have hail in the forecast with storms tomorrrow night. One hopes that the hail remains small if it shows up at all.
