Very strange for me. I spent the last 29 years living in Pontiac and would hear fireworks and gunshots all week long. Now that I'm in Royal Oak I haven't heard a thing other than some distant firework shows. Have a happy 4th Patti.

Same to you, Patti.

When we first moved here, we were able to go up to the roof of the complex (three connected buildings) and see the big fireworks show as long as it was over the East River - Bloomberg moved it to the Hudson for a number of years. But in recent years - since they started putting cell towers up there - the roof has been closed all the time, including July 4, which is a shame, as it was a good time for bonding with neighbors.

We've seen the fireworks closer up once, when we took friends from out of town up on the FDR Drive (closed to traffic, I hasten to add) to see the show. And we've seen smaller, closer shows when visiting my parents in California and friends in Ohio.

Our temperatures will rocket into the 90s today. I plan to stay in the A/C and read. Hope you and Phil enjoy the 4th!

Hope you have a great Fourth! We don't go to fireworks shows, though sometimes watch on TV. I don't like loud noises (since when I was in the Army) and can live without the display, so I'll be in a quiet room reading. We do have idiot neighbors who like to fire off the really loud stuff. I just hope there are no fires. It's going to be in the high 80s here.

Jeff, you'd think they would open the roof two night a year, the 4th and New Years.

I think they're afraid of the liability. It's dark up there - no lights. There are stairs to get from one building to another. There is building debris because they're working on the roof and the fire escapes.

Good game today (from our perspective) as the Yankees beat Atlanta 6 -2. It was cloudy, which kept the heat down to the mud-80s, but the humidity was brutal. I probably sweated off several pounds.
