We have had so much much perfect weather, I feel guilty with what is going on in other areas.
Happy Kevin made a friend his first week in a new school.
Went with my friend, Mary, to see what may become (although I doubt it) a Broadway musical. Called Johnny Manhattan it's about the last night of a nightclub in 1958 Manhattan. Terrific cast but the music was just not good enough. The singing was terrific though. You kept waiting for them to play a song from that era but it was all original music and not memorable. However the set was good and it was enjoyable.
Happy we got Acorn this week. Once we could stream in through Amazon, $5 a month seemed worth it.
Happy that it seems like we got through these horrific weather events without the sort of death toll Katrina saw. Fingers crossed.
And what about you?

Our weather has been great too. We were able to have breakfast on our deck for the first time in a good while
I'm happy the Buffalo Bills won their Home Opener. But I fear it will be long time before they win another game.
The weather in Western NY has been wonderful: sunny and cool!
I'm hopeful our friends and family in Texas and Florida can recover from Harvey and Irma!
Too bad the Bills can't play the Jets every week, eh George?
Our weather has been just great too. I know the Pacific Northwest has been suffering too. At least they aren't under water. Also, we're both feeling well. This coming Sunday is Jackie's birthday, by the way.
I'm happy that, as bad as Irma was, it wasn't as bad as predicted or as bad as it could have been. Hope no one forgets Houston in all this. One upside, at least, is we've gone days without a new White House outrage.
We're enjoying Netflix and Amazon Prime and Acorn. Otherwise, television is a wasteland, despite having literally hundreds of channels. The new sitcoms are mostly generic and blah. We're watching the last season of THE WIRE now and ORPHAN BLACK on Amazon, plus 19-2 (Canadian cop show) and THE GOOD KARMA HOSPITAL and MURDER IN SUBURBIA and VERA on Acorn, and DAREDEVIL and MIDSOMER MURDERS and I can't remember what else on Netflix.
I'm enjoying books, but with the political news and back to back hurricanes, I'm not getting a lot read. I have a pile of library books waiting.
Also, I'm sorry we have to do it, but I'm glad we read the names of the dead every year on 9/11. It;s very touching seeing loved ones participate, and seeing the kids who will never know their aunt or grandfather is just sad. It's important for all of us to remember, even if it is hard to watch.
I feel a bit guilty about some of the things that made me happy this week.
It's 9:30 Central time here and, despite some wind and a few sprinkles, Irma seems to have passed us by. I keep thinking Irma could have been much worse, then I see the devastation she caused throughout the Caribbean and parts of southern Florida. Fires on the west coast, drought in the Plains, Harvey in Houston and Louisiana, earthquakes in Baja, floods in Asia, Trump in the White House...somehow people muddle through and that gives me hope.
Hope, too, on this 9/11. As bad as it was, it could have been worse. For a brief moment afterward the world stood as one. Then Bush and his neo-con cronies blew it completely (though not as completely as our current president, I should say) and alienated much of the world against us. I'm with Jeff on the scrolling of the names of those we lost. We must never forget.
Binge-watched the six seasons of WIRE IN THE BLOOD, based on Val McDermid's Tony Hill character. Loved it.
Vincente Fox is my new hero and I might just vote for him.
Picked up a bicycle in good condition that amy might be able to use on campus. We just have to replace the tires.
No, Jeff, we're not under water, we're burning, and the heat is back and the smoke is terrible so it's hard to breathe. That's all.
I'm happy I lost 6 pounds this week (I weigh every Monday morning). I'm at the lowest weight I have been in 4 years, but still a very long way to go.
I'm happy Barbara's quilting friends are coming today for "quilt group". They all get in her quilt studio and spend the day working on projects and talking, with a break for lunch. It's really nice for her. They meet every 2 weeks, rotating host.
Both children started school last week, 6th and 9th grades. Boy #1 had his first mountain bike race of the season yesterday and was happy with his results. Race weekends are long weekends with a Saturday practice ride on the competition course then the race on Sunday. Boy #1 is also on the cross country team. He is always reserved and teenaged grouchy when he is at home and my wife and I enjoy seeing him have fun with teammates.
Boy #2 is doing fall soccer through the rec league. He is not into many physical activities but enjoys soccer. He mainly likes to either play a game on the computer or sit on his bed and read while he pets a cat.
I finally started reading a new book. I'd been dithering about what to read next and started PUBLIC LIBRARY AND OTHER STORIES by Ali Smith. The UK version came out in 2015.
Phil wants to see IT but it is too scary for me.
So glad we have Gerard here to remind us what sorts of things we use to do with our kids.
Kevin, at ten, play hockey, baseball and tennis but we don't get to see too many games. He's 45 minutes away.
Stress makes me eat so I am gaining than losing. Six pounds in a week is great.
I need to revisit WIRE IN THE BLOOD. Some seasons we missed.
The Steve Oerkfitz post is not mine. I actually did see It and found it much better than the miniseries.
For those that have Amazon Prime catch Sneaky Pete
Enjoying the same weather as you Patti.
Glad the Lions won their home opener. All the other Detroit teams are terrible. Can't believe Verlander is gone.
Still enjoying Ray Donovan and the Deuce. Curb Your Enthusiasm is coming back soo.
Good news about the weight. One day at a time. Jackie has struggled with weight for 50 years so I feel your pain. I'm one of those lucky people who never gains much and can lose weight if I want to.
I didn't like the book of IT or the miniseries, and have zero intention of seeing the new movie. I only disliked CUJO more of his books that I read.
And as for SNEAKY PETE, the chance is even lower. It would be difficult for me to think of an actor I dislike more than Giovanni "Look at Me" Ribisi.
Not a fan of Ribisi either but he's quite good in this. Worth watching for Margo Martindale.
We got rid of SHOWTIME to save some money. I do miss Ray.
