BECOMING CARY GRANT

Watched BECOMING CARY GRANT last night (Showtime) It  was more poignant than jolly and only told the story from the vantage point of his unpublished memoirs.. I have to wonder if there is any film clip more often shown than the one from NORTH BY NORTHWEST where he flees from a murderous crop duster. Can you think of one? Also what is your favorite Cary Grant movie? Nearly impossible to choose just one.

Interesting question, Patti. I don't think I could pick one great Cary Grant role, either.

Impossible to pick one, but:

North By Northwest
His Girl Friday
Charade
The Philadelphia Story

Most shown film clips? What about the shower scene in PSYCHO?

Good one, Jeff.

And, of course, though perhaps less so recenty, the eyeball scene in UN CHIEN ANDALOU and the naked run (and perhaps the oral sex) in ECSTASY...and the show-leather eating in THE GOLD RUSH and the transformation of the robot in METROPOLIS...but, yeah...certain clips get a workout.

HIS GIRL FRIDAY tendss to dominate my memory of Grant.

I always liked TO CATCH A THIEF. But Cary Grant was in a lot of good movies.

I thought of that one too, George.

I'm very partial to BRINGING UP BABY.

Bringing Up Baby is my favorite (I think)

I always liked Tony Curtis` marvelous impersonation of Cary Grant in SOME LIKE IT HOT, still hilarious to this day.

Favorite? Impossible question, Patti. I’d like to see the documentary.

My favourite is His Girl Friday, followed close by Notorious. The first my favourite comedy, the second my favourite Hitchcock.

Then there is his saddest movie: PENNY SERENADE.

Hard choice, but His Girl Friday is my pick. Today. Tomorrow it might be Gunga Din.

Well, maybe the shot with the glass of milk from SUSPICION?

My top Grant list would have to include a lot of his screwball comedies:

THE AWFUL TRUTH
BRINGING UP BABY
ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS
HOLIDAY
THE PHILADELPHIA STORY
HIS GIRL FRIDAY
TALK OF THE TOWN
NOTORIOUS
PEOPLE WILL TALK

One of the absolute easiest of his to enjoy of course is CHARADE, certainly the best of his films from the 1960s.
