VENDETTA, Michael Dibdin
This is the second in the series (1990) concerning the police work of Aurelio Zen. Inspector Zen is one of the more sophisticated cops and the Italian settings in this series always wowed me.
In VENDETTA, Zen investigates the assassination of a millionaire and all of his his guests at a posh location in the Sardinian mountains. Despite a sophisticated security system, no pictures of the intruders exists. A lot of pressure comes from Zen's higher-ups to solve this high-profile, seemingly locked room, type murder.
I like this series a lot. Michael Dibdin died far too young.

Yes to Aurelio Zen! I read them all, but I need to revisit the series.
I also liked DIRTY TRICKS, a deliciously nasty stand-alone.
Haven't read any Dibdin. Need to check it out.
Patti, Michael Dibdin is new to me and I'll check out his books. Thanks for all the links.
I think you will like them, Prashant.
The TV series didn't work out, I guess. I only remember one episode.
We tried the television series too but didn't care for the one episode so gave up. I prefer Andrea Camilleri's Sicilian series about Salvo Montalbano and have several DVDs of the Italian television series.

Finally done, Patti. Spent too much time finding the right scans to illustrate this one. Not really a forgotten book but an amazing one I think few people have read.

One of my goals for the upcoming year is to take the time to write up reviews more consistently for FFB. In the meantime, I still read the posts diligently! I appreciate y'all.
Always glad to have you, Kelly.
I like the variety here a lot. And thanks, as ever, for including my post!
I soured on him when he made disparaging remarks about fans after a Bouchercon.
That ruined Ruth Rendell for me!
