Fox 2000 Sets Michael Sucsy For ‘Dare Me’; Will Natalie Portman Star?

EXCLUSIVE: Fox 2000 has setMichael Sucsy to direct Dare Me, an adaptation of the Megan Abbott novel that is described as Heathersmeets Fight Club, with teenage cheerleaders. The studio is courtingNatalie Portman to star in the film that was scripted by Abbott. Karen Rosenfelt is producing.
Sucsy directed the HBO pic Grey Gardens and then followed with the Screen Gems hit The Vow, which starred Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams. This is new terrain because this is edgy stuff. Sucsy is separately attached to helm the Beach Boys film as well as Straight No Chaser and Black Widow. He’s repped by CAA and Anonymous Content, Portman by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Portman is wrapping production on Jane Got A Gun, the Gavin O’Connor-directed Western on which she is a producer, and which she stars in with Joel Edgerton, Noah Emmerich and Ewan McGregor.

Sounds like mostly good news...though clearly the director, at least, is seeing what will stick to the wall (and what an unflattering photo of him). But, clearly, serious interest in making a film of DARE ME is still in evidence!
Portman is 32 and now a mother! They can't find a real teen actor or someone in her early twenties? What about Mia Wasikowska - a much better actress and one who still looks like a teen. Or even Anna Kendrick who just turned 27. Hope it gets made with someone other than Portman.
She would play the coach, who is supposed to be in her mid-late twenties. No word of casting the teens yet.
Hi Patti
No idea about this. But here's my post for FFB:

Death in Retirement by Josephine Bell (1953)
Thanks.
Wow, this is great news for Megan!
I hope things turn out. It would be neat to see actual teenagers cast but I suppose that is not always practical.
