This is what happens

when you go on a vacation. You begin to rethink aspects of your novel. And suddenly it occurs to you, you should have written it in the first person. How could you have made that mistake?

Or what were you thinking setting up that plot device where the explanation of what happened will be longer than what happened? Or the whole thing is really cheesy and you should stick with the shorts. Does this happen to you? Or is it just me?

Constantly, and I don't even need vacations for it to happen!

But when you don't have the manuscript to consult, your mind really begins to roam!!!

Seems to be a lot of this going around lately. I may need to stay away from you guys - it's contagious!

Yes, it happens to me, too. I think it happens to everyone. The fact that you were thinking about it on vacation tells me you're really into this novel. But don't make any of those changes until after you're finished. Then, if you still feel like switching to first person, you can do it.

I once had an editor tell me to switch a book from 1st to 3rd. I didn't because she was wrong and I sold it elsewhere.

As for thinking the whole thing is lousy, I believe that right up until I hear from my agent.

Notice no men are on here saying how they rethink every move.

That's only because I'm having internet issues.

I absolutely rethink every move. And I think every writer does. It takes a certain arrogance, or stubborn mindedness to finally say, with eyes closed tight, that we're done.

I rethink things constantly, and really try not to let it derail me. Smetimes, I'm actually successful.

Sorry for assuming, men don't fret over every word too. I'm both glad and sorry to hear it.

Ummmm, just got back from vacation myself and I was doing this the whole time. Not just POV, but what job the character should have, plot points, endings, rewrites, everything. It sucks because I couldn't come up with anything that resolved anything. Glad to see you made it back sfe.

After a while, nothing seems inviolable with editing.
