FORGOTTEN MOVIES: THE GIRL WITH THE GREEN EYES

Based on the novel, THE COUNTRY GIRL, by Edna O'Brien, Rita Tushingham brings her winsome charm to the story of a girl's first love affair, with an older novelist.More than movies about teenagers from Hollywood of this era, which seemed to be always set on a beach, this reminds me of my youth.

I am a great fan of British cinema from this era. Do you have a favorite film from the UK?

  11. Can't believe I didn't mention Two for the Road, one of my favorite movies.

I liked the original Wicker Man. Would not even consider watching the remake.

Had Two for the Road dvred. Watched it about half way and bailed out. Too many scenes didn't play right with me. Never met anyone as outgoing as the Finney character.

  15. I like THE GIRL WITH GREEN EYES. I like a great many British films. That late-1950s, early 1960s era of “kitchen sink” films was particularly good. Many of them are mentioned above. My favorite is SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING. Albert Finney – about 24 years old at the time – gave an amazing performance. Another one, a tough one, from that era is THIS SPORTING LIFE, with Richard Harris.
