I always read - and usually enjoy - those By the Book segments in the Times, but Megan's was one of the most interesting in a long time. I'm looking forward to her book.
And a shout-out to Mom and Dad! I can't imagine how proud you must be feeling!
The Robert Kolker book, LOST GIRLS, that she recommended for the president to read was one of the best books I've read in the last few years. A terribly sad book about the toll broken marriages, low income, limited education, casual drug use, and the commodification of sex take on the working class, especially women.
What a generous shoutout that was to her fellow writers that was! And so diplomatic about the book she hadn't liked. And I appreciated adding some titles to my TBR pile.
Also, a nice nod to her parents and their fostering of her reading tastes. Good work!

ReplyDeleteIt's my favorite of her books.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it may not all appear. Apparently they usually have to cut it down. That's why I posted it in its entirety here.
ReplyDeleteShe's much better read than I am. I was never able to handle true crime. Too horrific for me.
ReplyDeleteHer Ph.D. is in literature. Yours in psychology. If you saw her walk home from the subway, you would see how fearless she is. To my horror.
ReplyDeleteFascinating.
ReplyDeleteGreat book choices! Megan has great taste in books. I'm sure that came about under the influence of you and Phil!

HELTER SKELTER freaked me out in my 20s. Forget about reading it at 10.
ReplyDeleteOf course that was a big story here, Deb, being on Long Island.

She's a good 'un. Nobody works harder than she does.
ReplyDeleteMegan is fantastic! And so are her parents.
ReplyDeleteMrs. A, you have a brilliant daughter!
ReplyDeleteWhen she made in from K to her Ph.D with all As, I still never expected this.
ReplyDeleteThere are those who would ask, naturally, if she's a product of nature or nurture. Your surprise indicates a concert of both.
