Wow, that's cool. What are the circumstances? Is she finally being published here? Stockholm is only 40 minutes away from where I live, so if that's where she's going I guess I could make it. The last time I met a touring writer was when Ed McBain came here in 1984.
I watched a DVD of the T.A.M.I. SHOW a few months back. The included booklet told the interesting story of putting together that one-off show.
I'd listened to the Police's tune WHEN THE WORLD IS RUNNING DOWN, YOU MAKE THE BEST OF WHAT'S STILL AROUND for a hundred times and never knew he was referencing that concert.
The Beach Boys were always involved with Jan & Dean. Brian Wilson gave them "Surf City" - much to the anger of his awful father - which he had co-written. That was Jan & Dean's only #1 song.
Jan asked Brian to write "Catch a Wave's lyrics for them and Brian turned it into "Sidewalk Surfing" (listen to the two back to back).
As is well known, Dean Torrence sang the lead on the live hit Beach Boys cover of "Barbara Ann" which was a #2 hit.
From "The T.A.M.I. Show" - the only concert movie that makes me wish I had been there.
ReplyDeleteSay, Anders, Megan is coming to Sweden in March.

ReplyDeleteYes, she is being published there and it will be in Stockholm. I will ask her the dates.
ReplyDeleteOK, there is little more quintessentially Southern CA than the Beach Boys!
ReplyDeleteMargot is right, but this one is by Jan and Dean.
ReplyDeleteOnce you're there, it'll be time for some surk music, Patti. Have a gentle flight. Should be beautiful when you land in S.D. today.
Um, "surf" music...
ReplyDeleteThe Beach Boys did arrangements and composed for numerous group. I'm sure this is one for Jan and Dean, contemporaries.
