I loved the way they always called him Mr. Acker Bilk. Apparently he wrote it when his daughter Jenny was born, and called it "Jenny" until the BBC got him to change it to tie in with a TV show called STRANGER ON THE SHORE.

A fixture of my childhood in 1960s England. I haven't thought of this song or Mr. Acker Bilk (could that possibly have been his real name?) in years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

That was my comment by the way.

  4. Patti: Thank you for this. Danced many a slow dance to this. God, we were such a hopeful and romantic bunch of kids in those days. Even the Lettermen's 'The Way You Look Tonight.' We also had the Beach Boys who represented our adventurous fun side. Yours truly, Toe.

  6. Deb--who would affect "Acker Bilk" as a name? Well, perhaps "Conway Twitty," who apparently thought his pseud sounded sophisticated...
