My sister in law went to Coney Island the other day and said it is not in good shape. The boardwalk smells like moldy wood and there is a long way to go. Yet, in all the Sandy stories Coney is rarely mentioned.
I bunked work to see this film in a theatre in mid-1980! I agree it still holds up after all these years. I think there was another Hollywood film with a similar theme that came out many years later wherein the lead actor is gunned down by cops in the end (I'm not sure, though). The Hindi film industry made a successful remake of DOG DAY AFTERNOON.
I think my Uncle "Doc" actually took my two older brothers and I to see this at a drive-in. I think I was 10 or so. He always took us to the crime flicks. He told my indifferent, clueless parents, "We're gonna go see some cops and robbers."
I watched this again over the winter. Great movie.
ReplyDeleteIT REALLY HOLDS UP. THOSE SEVENTIES MOVIES JUST DO.
ReplyDeleteAttica! Attica!
