Pelican is our state bird here in Louisiana, but I see more egrets--even in drainage ditches and retaining ponds.
Lots of beautiful Brown Pelicans on the California coast, I enjoyed them when I lived in Laguna Beach.
Egrets, in comparison, are *mean*. Just ask your cats.
