HBD2U! And Happy 2011~ '78 was a good year. I remember my cousin Kevin blowing thorugh town with "Still the Same" blowing from his 8-track speakers in a Detroit muscle car . . .
Seger's an all time favorite. Managed to catch him live three times, the last a few years back on the tour for what may have been the last CD(can't even remember the title it was that bad).
It was sad as I noticed people were using the new songs for pit stops or concession runs, saving the classics for viewing and listening.
He 's one of the greats. And a Detroit boy to boot.
It's been years since we saw Bob Seger in concert but I still like his live concert album.
One of his most evocative verses is from "Night Moves":
I woke last night to the sound of thunder How far off I sat and wondered Started humming a song from 1962 Ain't it funny how the night moves When you just don't seem to have as much to lose Strange how the night moves With autumn closing in
I never get tired of this song.
ReplyDeleteAh... The memories of a carefree teenage life, which Seeger's tunes were a big part of. Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" got it right about those days.
ReplyDeleteMe either. Even though the lyrics are sad, the tune is upbeat.
ReplyDeleteSeger...one of the greats. First time I heard this one, I was instantly taken by the line, "I caught up with you yesterday."
ReplyDeleteYou don't hear his name much anymore. A real rock and roll voice.

ReplyDeleteIt was a very good year... Thanks.

Old Seger is indeed some of the best. His pre-Silver Bullet Band stuff, the Bob Seger System, is also great.
