Sara Gran and Megan Abbott, discovered a mutual teenage love of the novels of V.C. Andrews (FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC) and wrote an article for THE BELIEVER. You can sample it here.
Two talented writers. Always wondered how a collaboration worked - does each take a turn with a paragraph? Anyway, I'll be in the bookstore tomorrow for a look at the article.
Brian Garfield and Donald E. Westlake wrote a novel together. When I asked Westlake about the experience, he said, "It was twice the work and half the fun."
And yet Jason Starr and Ken Bruen seem to have enjoyed it enough to do it three times. My husband has done two books with co-authors-hated it both times.
Some writing partnerships work. "Emma Lathen" and "Ellery Queen" were productive for years. I suppose writing partnerships work about as often as marriages: about 50%.
