And thanks to everyone else for their generous comments about the article.

Margot: appreciate relearning the terms, ie controlled vs. automatic processing. I remember a junior high science teacher explaining: "If you put your finger in a hot frying pan and pull it out, that's automatic. If you leave it in, it's controlled, and you're an idiot." Ah, education.Tom Piccirillihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11342750725233851622noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33110302.post-7684276283548184122010-10-28T11:49:14.864-04:002010-10-28T11:49:14.864-04:00My personal favorite is THE COLD SPOT.My personal favorite is THE COLD SPOT.pattinase (abbott)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02916037185235335846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33110302.post-49396935511184452522010-10-28T11:20:37.197-04:002010-10-28T11:20:37.197-04:00I'm finding it to be true too that the longer ...I'm finding it to be true too that the longer I write the less I can clearly articulate the process. It's really true that the more one does it, the harder it is to really take apart the process. In cognitive research, that's the difference between controlled processing, where one's aware of one's thinking and behavior(like learning to drive) and automatic processing, where one does things without really needing to be aware of the process (like driving on a typical day after you've been driving for years).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
