I read the book as a teenager and was struck by how faithful the movie had been to the book.

My book group read it at some point and I liked it in a different way. Recently we read The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, and I absolutely marveled at that one. Have yet to see the movie of that one, though, although I did see part of the beginning once.seana grahamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03774794086733027289noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33110302.post-57746762479585823812014-10-14T13:15:58.628-04:002014-10-14T13:15:58.628-04:00I think I read this many MANY years ago, Patti. Might even have seen the film since something is clicking in my memory box. :) I liked Ethel Waters screen presence so much and loved Julie Harris and Brandon DeWilde (such a tragic end for such a fine young actor).

No matter what Julie Harris did, it was always tinged with bittersweetness. I remember her most from EAST OF EDEN.Yvettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08919246184376538331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33110302.post-36846128003462532872014-10-14T12:31:35.664-04:002014-10-14T12:31:35.664-04:00I'll have to check out the book. I also remember linking the the adaptation of HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER with an amazing Alan Arkin with Sondra Locke in what i think was her cinema debut.
