You're right that things are very obvious now, but not so much 50 years ago. And again, there is the love-lorn, put-upon, rejected brunette, Diane Baker (cf., Barbara Bel Geddes in Vertigo; Suzanne Plashette in The Birds): ignored by the hero, despised by Hitchcock.Debnoreply@blogger.com
