Monday, Monday

My fifth No Kings Day march although we just stand at my venue because there's no room to march. Does it do any good? I don't know. It's a good place to get people to sign petitions to get people or propositions on the ballot though.

Saw PROJECT HALL MARY, which was fun. I did not see it on an IMAX screen though. I am afraid it will make me dizzy. Maybe cleaves too close to ClOSE ENCOUNTERS and ET to be very original.

Went to a lecture on India and Pakistan and a string concert at my Senior Center. We are lucky to have such a vibrant center with a lot of activities. There are many field trips too.

Watching Harry Hole series, Shrinking, The Pitt, Bait, etc.

Reading THE GUARDIAN AND THE THIEF set in the near feature. Also WHAT WE CAN KNOW by Ian Mcewan.

Kevin is home and we are going with him to see THE MOTH, here for a night in Detroit, a requirement for his creative writing class. He also has to go to a Poetry Slam.

The temps are up and down. Hard on the body.

What about you?

It's computer virus central here. I was able to jury rig a workaround for a couple of hours but then it went kablooie. Am sometimes able to use the left two-thirds of my screen; sometimes not. I'll see my computer guy later today, hoping he can come up with something.

Millie, Mark's gray rat snake escaped Wednesday night. Mark finally found her on Friday and she really did not want to be recaptured. Jolly, the Golden Retriever, wanted to play with Millie, but Mark said no. Newercat Rose is now safely ensconced in Christina and Walt's bedroom and seems happy there; she refuses to leave the room and still does nt want anything to do with me. **sigh**

It's been a week of reflection. My 56th anniversary on Thursday, and my parents' 85th anniversary on Saturday, as well as the No Kings rallies. Could not attend any of the six local rallies, but I did wear my anti-Trump shirt and sported a homemade "8647" sign on my car -- both of which got compliments as I went around town.

Went Bingo-ing for the first time. Christina and Walt have been keeping Walt Sr. and Ellen company for those outings. It cost me $30 for the bingo cards and I won $30. For that I could have stayed home and read a book. Still, I';ll probably join them again in a couple of week.

Sunday is our annual Easter outing at Blackwater State Park, where we rent a pavilion. Should be a good time as always.

Started Season 2 of DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN. Books read included a Sherlock Holmes vs. Cthulhu anthology, a haunted house babysitting novel by Stephen Graham Jones, the final book in the APACHE LAW western series by "Luke Adams" (who was Bill Crider), and a dense, prophetic graphic novel of Octavia E. Butler's PARABLE OF THE TALENTS.

Stay safe, Patti, and have a great week.

There were No Kings things here, but we didn't go. I had a cold and Jackie can't stand for long. The crowds in Manhattan looked huge.

Weather has been up and down here. Plenty of rain yesterday, with a lot of wind. We stayed in again. The day before was one of the hottest and most humid since we've been here. This is the last week of our three months. We leave for home next Monday. I am so not looking forward to packing and the drive. Jackie always promises she won't be buying anything here and we'll have less to bring home, but it never happens.

E finished the last 3 episodes of eries 3 of the French THE BUREAU last night. Very good show. Series 4 didn't get great reviews but we'll get to it. I think it's on Paramount + now. Also watching SLOW HORSES (series 3) and the Israeli TEHRAN on Apple +.

There was a large NO KINGS march in Buffalo on Saturday. Bigger than the last one. But all this discontent needs to show up on Election Day in November to do any good.

Katie flew in from Boston to spend the weekend with a friend who just had a baby. She's back in Boston this morning. No TSA problems.

Diane is packing us up for the trip to Ohio for Easter weekend. Looks like a rainy trip.

Hope everyone enjoys a relaxing Easter. Stay safe!

I always have some mixed feelings about rallies, but they do get the word and the sense of concern out. Some reinforcement in others also letting everyone know there is a motivated bloc of citizens willing to be seen.

Do you ever catch THE ROOSTER, Patti (and others here)? Writer-family college campus sitcom newly on HBO...I like it.

I'm glad you got to do a No Kings Day event. I'm hoping they do good. I haven't seen it yet, but I've herd that Project Hail Mary is good. And I keep hearing how good The PItt is; I should try it.

If you liked ER, you'll probably like THE PITT...no commerical breaks and somewhat more unrelenting with no great censorship concerns.

How is Tehran? Have always meant to try it.

I love Steve Carrell so I am watching it. The best college one was on a couple of years ago with Bob Odenkirk I think, but it was cancelled. I did not think much of Vladimir but liked THE CHAIR>

THE PITT is terrific.

It is good that you stood up for No Kings Day. Our temps have been a bit less hot lately, but too warm to work outside comfortably. I hope this does not continue to get worse through the summer. Luckily we have had overcast skies in the mornings since we started working on the borders on the front walk.

I still want to watch THE PITT but we still have not subscribed to HBO. We are still enjoying all the shows we are currently watching. This weekend we started watching HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE, but about 1/3 of the way the DVD died, so we will be getting a new copy. Instead we watched THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI ACROSS THE 8TH DIMENSION, and enjoyed that one. Also watched THE BOYFRIEND. Both were fun. Great tap dancing in THE BOYFRIEND.

Glen is now reading WELCOME TO THE HYUNAM-DONG BOOKSHOP by Hwang Bo-Reum. And liking it.

I finished FIRST DO NO HARM, S.J. Rozan's most recent novel. Set in a hospital. I liked it a lot. I am glad that she has been writing more consistently on the Lydia Chin / Bill Smith series. This is the 16th book. There were two stretches where she did not write more books in that series for 6 or 7 years.

I am now reading SOVIET SOURCES, a Cold War spy story by Robert Cullen, first published in 1990. I have only read 50 pages so far and it seems like my kind of spy fiction. There are two more in the series, all reprinted by Felony & Mayhem. (And I have them both.)

A haunted babysitting novel sounds good.

Looking forward to the new Harry Potter series beginning on Christmas on HBO

It's actually very good so far, though we've just started the first series. If you like spy stories, it's definitely worth trying.

In the first episode, they arrange for a plane to make an "emergency " landing in Tehran to switch two women, one a spy. But you can feel the anxiety of a totally uninvolved Israeli couple who bought tickets at the last minute to save on the fare, only to discover they are in Iran.

The tension is palpable.

Lucky Hank (2023) was the Odenkirk show. We liked it too.

I had to attend a memorial service on Saturday and was unable to march.
We've vent cover missing on the outside of the house for our 1st floor bathroom fan. I heard birds when inside and decided I should clear the animals out. To get into the space between 1st and and floors I remove the light and fan and then mangle the electrical box to get it out of the way. There were two nests, a lot of plaster dust, and maneuving the shop-vac hose through the 10" square hole.
I still need to replace a hard to reach flexible hose and the electrical box. I am really hoping to avoid cutting out the drywall.
Stayed up too late trying to finish Joe Sacco's THE ONCE AND FUTURE RIOT. Sacco is a journalist/comics artist. ONCE is his reporting on riots in Northwest India in 2013 that killed about 60 people.
Nothing of note on TV. I did start watching GREYHOUND on AppleTV. I'd been wanting to see that since I first heard about. Tons of CGI but well done and allows them to tell a story that would be insanely expensive otherwise.
This afternoon I head to a conference in Minneapolis. Boy #1 has now acquired Cat #2 to have a companion for Cat #1. Cats 1 and 2 are still avoiding one another.
