As to Oddjob in the Goldfinger movie, he was on a plane with me, my mother, and aunt in Europe. They'd come for a visit when I was in the Army in Germany. Oddjob rode in coach. He was wearing his trademark top hat with the metal ring, was very charming with everyone on the plane. Had a great sense of humor. Not sure he made many other movies, but that one was definitely his peak.
Sakata made a number of other films, at least, and did a fair amount of tv episodes, including an endearingly goofy if dull sf film called DIMENSION FIVE, with longterm media crush France Nuyen. Even with her in it, I've never made it all the way through.
Probably my favorite opening/credits sequence so far remains BULLITT. Very impressive to me, even in its utter flashiness...if a less OTT type of flashiness than Bond or M:I films.
As something close to the opposite of a foot fetishist, the LOLITA opening (unfortunate image arises there) kinda squicks me beyond what it's meant to do. Particularly when I further consider how ticklish I would be if someone gripped my food like that, and what horrible stuff nail polish is, not least in the olfactory...
Always liked the opening sequence of Once Upon A Time in the West.
ReplyDeleteYes. A great one. So many good ones but so many unmemorable ones too. If it was my film, I would put great emphasis on it.
ReplyDeleteI was just a kid, but I was blown away by the opening sequence of GOLDFINGER.

ReplyDeleteGOLDFINGER is amazing. I remember seeing it and thinking my eyes would fall out.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to that guy, Matt?
ReplyDeleteAs I recall he was a grandson or some other kin to the guilty guys, Patti. It was a pretty good movie, but I haven't seen it in decades.
