My Ten Favorite Films of 2015

It actually wasn't hard choosing just ten this year. Eleven would have been THE MARTIAN but that was a more ordinary film than the top ten. And after that the fall off would have been larger. But here they are.

1.  ROOM
2.  SICARIO
3.  CAROL
4.  EX MACHINA
5.  CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA
6.  PHOENIX
7.  DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL
8.  MAD MAX: FURY ROAD
9.  WILD TALES
10. GETT: THE TRIAL OF VIVIANNE ANSELM

I saw a lot of good documentaries this year too. My favorites among them were THE WOLFPACK, BEST OF ENEMIES, AMY, GOING CLEAR, WHAT HAPPENED MISS SIMONE.

I haven't seen any of them. We'll be watching MAD MAX this weekend. Do not want to see ROOM.

Wow, lots of films to see, though I think I have seen PHOENIX.

I'm clearly missing out on some great films. I have not been to a movie theater since I was roped into going to see Lord of the Rings. My viewing is now via the living room Samsung, Direct, and Netflix. I guess I need to get out more. But my absence from movie theaters suggests a question to others: Has anyone else given up on the out-of-home movie experience? If so, I bet your reasons are similar to mine (e.g., costs, inconvenience of schedules, and rudeness of audiences).

What, no INSIDE OUT? You made some great choices. David Edelstein on NPR picked ROOM as his best movie, too.

When it came down to it, I felt INSIDE OUT had too negative view of life. And it was too depressing for kids IMHO.

I think audiences are better behaved than in the past. I think the price is reasonable compared to any other out of home entertainment. Where I live, there are enough theaters to find a movie at almost anytime you want. If I go in the daytime, I can see a movie for $6, sometimes less. Where else do you get two hours of entertainment for that. And the new sound systems, seats, etc. are better than ever. But I will always choose going out over staying in if I am able.

I really enjoyed 2, 4, and 8, the only ones on your list I've seen. If I made a top ten, they would all be on them. Fury Road is probably #2 for me.
