It is very surreal as the seasons change during his swim. pattinase (abbott)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02916037185235335846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33110302.post-88878160685859434552016-10-11T14:51:53.416-04:002016-10-11T14:51:53.416-04:00It was a great movie! When I read the Cheever story, things began to make sense: can we possibly connect with others from within our own existential isolation? I'm not sure of the answer. (Cheever's own life: he was "the swimmer")RTDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17113953356514605424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33110302.post-69757835417163126422016-10-11T14:28:42.808-04:002016-10-11T14:28:42.808-04:00I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie when...I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie when I first saw THE SWIMMER and I was relatively young. Definitely in my 20s. There's something slightly surreal about the whole thing. It also has a metaphysical quality to it that appeals to me. My favorite scene will always be the one where he swims in the empty pool with the boy teaching him how to swim in imaginary water.J F Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06473487417479127354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33110302.post-43742361723866092692016-10-11T10:51:48.591-04:002016-10-11T10:51:48.591-04:00Definitely did not even know about this oneDefinitely did not even know about this oneCharles Gramlichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02052592247572253641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33110302.post-23399833627870938652016-10-11T09:30:52.765-04:002016-10-11T09:30:52.765-04:00We saw this one when it first came out in 1968 - w...We saw this one when it first came out in 1968 - we went to the movies every weekend then - but appreciated it more when I saw it again years later. I never read the Cheever story until 2012.
