Every week I try and remember what day it is and what is scheduled, but every week it seems that Wednesday catches me by surprise.
I'd definitely go with Alice Munro's "The Bear Came Over the Mountain," the final story in her HATESHIP, FRIENDSHIP, COURTSHIP, LOVESHIP, MARRIAGE collection. A professor in a long-married couple who has had a number of affairs over the years, has to deal with his wife's Alzheimers. When he first visits her after 30 days, he discovers that she doesn't seem to know who he is, but has formed an attachment to another man. This was filmed as AWAY FROM HER by actress Sarah Polley, who also wrote the screenplay, with Julie Christie and Gordon Pinsent as the couple. Christie and Polley (for her screenplay) got Oscar nominations for it.
After your yesterday pos, I was reluctant to post, but you can see at the bottom of George's post I'm having a difficult time with various things going wrong and also being ill. Working hard to cher up and have a good Christmas!

Loved the story and the movie. Polley needs to make more movies. She's got a great touch.
ReplyDeleteI have not run into a collection with no appealing stories yet, but I have worried about that happening. I worry about the strangest things.
ReplyDeleteI really need to read some stories by Alice Munro, especially since I am doing a Canadian Reading Challenge.
Mine is up:
