A true classic. Jake Carey died in 1997. Zeke Carey (adopted cousin, apparently) died in 1999. We saw them perform at Do Wop concerts in the '80s and '90s and they were great still.
Back during my 30-year career as a musician, I had the personal pleasure of backing up the Flamingos for a show in Miami. They still had four of the original guys and man, were they great singers! Smooooooooth, baby.

ReplyDeleteAs Bill Crider would say, I miss the old days.
I’d also say that they’re one of the all-time great vocal groups.
ReplyDeleteNobody could beat their harmony.
ReplyDeleteA great favorite of mine. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThink about you every day, Rick. Hope things are improving.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the minority here. Does nothing for me. I don't care for doo wop. Rate it right up there with barbershop quartets.
ReplyDeleteHey Steve, you know Bill was in a barbershop quartet, right?
