Well, we watch 1776 every July 4th (and we've seen it on stage a couple of times). We are, sadly, so far from those ideals these days, but it's good to remember where we started.
On the 4th, there is only one: 1776. Saw it in New York years ago and love it on film. William Daniels is great and part of how I came to view John Adams differently.
Patti, just with regards to something Jeffrey alluded to, i always liked that bit in Stanley Kubricks 1957 masterwork PATHS OF GLORY when Kirk Douglas said that patriotism was "The last refuge of a scoundrel", i`ve always agreed with that phrase especially when you consider how America has now totally degenerated into a society governed wholly and exclusively by lies, hypocrisy and ludicrous nonsense. Anyway, enough of my rage and bitterness, on a more positive note i hope you had a great Fourth of July Patti, all the best.

ReplyDeleteSecond feature: Yankee Doodle Dandy.
Happy Fourth of July, Patti!

INDEPENDENCE DAY.
ReplyDeleteThat's certainly on Jackie's list, George. She is looking to watch it this morning.
ReplyDeleteI guess I don't have one, though I see 1776 is on TCM today.
