The Greatest TV Detectives

Here is a list from the Telegraph. They forgot a lot of my favorites.

My top three choices would be Jim Rockford, Jane Tennison, and Morse. Who are yours?

  1. Miss Marple as played by Joan Hickson only
    Frank Pembleton in Homicide
    Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect

  5. Perry Mason, the Jim Hutton Ellery Queen, Carl Kolchak, Columbo. I've also been binge-watching British TV: Jack Taylor, Tony Hill, Rebus, Vera Stanhope, etc. -- love them all!

  11. I love Barnaby (or should I say "Barnabies" as there's been two--Tom and, when the actor plating him wanted to leave the series, John, supposedly Tom's nephew so they wouldn't have to change the last name) on The Midsomer Murders. The original six were adapted from books by Caroline Graham, but the show took on a life of its own and is now in its 18th season.

David Suchet as Poirot, Jian Hickson as Miss Marple, Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. My girls can have Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, but I do Martin Freeman as his Watson.

Oh, I like Jane Tennison very much, too. And Morse. And David Suchet as Poirot, and Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. Whoops, more than three...

  14. Right now, I'm enjoying Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes. And who could forget Frances McDormand in FARGO.

  15. Peter Gunn. I had the theme music dancing in my head but blanked out on the name.

McDormand was great, but she was a cop!
