Detroit students installing book benches where long waits for a bus are commonplace. DDOT (the city's bus service) tried to pull the plug but apparently relented.
Patti: Let's get serious here. Detroit's in big trouble. Hope Wayne State is okay. Maybe you can hook up with people like Mitch Albom and Doug Allyn to maintain pride in the city. Something needs to be done in what used to be 4th most prosperous city in the U.S. Yours truly, Toe.
WSU gets no money from the city. However the legislature feels it owes nothing much to Detroit or the idea of educating Detroit youth so they are starving the school. Unlike U of M and MSU they have few rich alumna to go to.
Patti - I. love. those! What a great idea and I'm so glad they're still there.
ReplyDeletePatti, this is a novel idea. Do the book benches also have books?
ReplyDeleteYes, I think if you look closely you will see the books across the bottom between the two seats.
ReplyDeleteDDOT should be ashmed of themselves. I love this idea.
ReplyDeleteJeff M.
I bet they just see it as trouble waiting to happen. They can't maintain their buses and probably think they would be expected to monitor the benches.
ReplyDeleteThis is nice, but I think the bankruptcy of Detroit will open a Pandora's Box of Bad Consequences.
ReplyDeleteNice to see folks who aren't giving up.
ReplyDeletePatti, I missed the books. I can see them now. Who is responsible for them?
ReplyDeleteDDOT is /was probably someone would get a splinter and sue them (not that they could get much...).
ReplyDeleteI imagine the students who build them. I could give them plenty if I knew where to go.
