These are some fine vintage commercials and funny too. I have vivid memories of the Old Spice after-shave commercial of the 80s, I think, which showed a man surfing the waves with haunting music playing in the background. It reminded me of the soundtrack of OMEN.
If they were using Alka-Seltzer they should have used "I can't believe I ate the whole thing." That "No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach is In)" was released as a single by "The T-Bones" in 1966 and reached #3 on the Billboard charts.
Authorities received a tip from a woman in Iceland that Bulger was living in a Santa Monica, California, apartment near a beach.[76][77] The The Boston Globe identified the tipster as Anna Bjornsdottir, a former model, actress, and Miss Iceland 1974, who lived in Bulger's neighborhood.
I remember some of the commercials from the 70s and 80s vividly. Too bad my kids will never understand the horror of "ring around the collar". Or hear one of the greatest punch lines of all time: "Flaming turkey wings!"
Oh, these are such reminders of the '60s! I always think ads are great 'windows' into the culture of a time, too.

That was supposed to be "007" up there.

The ironic thing about the Noxzema commercial is that Swedish woman decades later was the one who identified where Whitey Bulger was hiding.
ReplyDeleteThe one with the skydiver is just mind-boggling ...
ReplyDeleteWhat, Colt 45 isn't worth it? I actually remember that one.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite ads were by Stan Freberg.

No, two different women, George.

The Noxema girl was Gunilla Knuttson.

Inger Stevens was a babe. I watched FARMERS DAUGHTER in reruns, maybe on NICK AT NIGHT.
ReplyDelete"Old Spice means quality,
ReplyDeleteSaid the Captain to the B'son,
Look for the package with
The ship that sails the ocean."
Yep, I remember the Old Spice commercials too. As for "I can't believe I ate the whole thing", that may have been the late 1950s.
I would have guessed a little earlier, but it was 1972.

There was also this classic with Alice Playten and Terry Kiser.

ReplyDeleteI remember these. Not sure if this exact one but the ones with that music.
ReplyDeleteHere you go, Graham - Flaming turkey wings.

Oops, Jeff!
ReplyDeleteI remember them all. I don't know what I did yesterday, but I remember all of those commercials.
