What is your favorite movie where the story begins with someone assembling a group or team in order to achieve a goal? I'll start with THE SEVEN SAMURAI.
I love all the movies mentioned but my heart still belongs to The Blues Brothers. It exposed me to a lot of musicians and changed my record-buying habits forever.
Not a movie but an episode of The Simpsons: "The Book Job" based on Ocean's Eleven, where Homer and Bart recruit a team (featuring Neil Gaiman) to write the next young adult blockbuster book series. One of the best Simpsons' episodes of the past decade.
I also liked "The Black Seal" episode of Blackadder when Edmund assembles "the six most evil men in the kingdom" in his (futile) attempt to take the throne.
I'm probably stretching the point, but I enjoy mentioning I LOVE YOU TO DEATH in any context. (Hilarious movie, terrible title.) The outraged wife and her mother recruit an employee and the dimmest pair of aspring hitmen ever to appear onscreen.
Since The Magnificent Seven, The Dirty Dozen, and The Professionals have been mentioned, I'll say The Guns of Navarone. I can't think of the noir titles that do this. the one where they rob a race track and the one where they rob a factory payroll using a fuel truck as their Trojan Horse.

Yes, it can be any kind of team. I am thinking of lots of different kinds of films where this takes place.

ReplyDeleteI'll go with personal favorites MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and DIRTY DOZEN. Yes, I know SEVEN is taken from a Japanese film, but I like this version.
