Drabble Challenge

Every Saturday, I click on over to Rob Kitchin's blog (The View from the Blue House) and see what drabble he's come up with. Here is today's.

A drabble is a story of exactly 100 words. I have been dying to try one, but the incentive wasn't there until I thought you might try with me. So how about writing a drabble that alludes to one of these three pictures in even the most minor way. I thought of leaving the topic open, but I think that might be harder. Not sure.

How about two weeks from today: June 16th. As an incentive, I will put the names of all entries into a hat and send the winner whatever book of Megan's they'd care to read. (Don't have DARE ME yet). The last time I sent a book of Megan's out it had $140 dollars in it. I forgot that we put money in there after 2008. I can't promise that, but I will send a book.

Let me know.

  1. Sounds like an interesting challenge. I'll give this one some thought.

  2. I was more lost with the map than I was without it. Ssmartphones were supposed to keep you out of crap like this. I saw a show once where the survivalist dude smashed his binoculars to get the lenses out so he could start a fire. I don't need a fire, I need the binoculars.

But only if I can find the damned house before someone finds me. Which is ironic considering I was looking for people out here I couldn't find. Maybe I should give the money back, forget the job.

I'd still need to find my car, though.

  6. A 100-word drabble in 14 days? That's 7 words a day from today. I think I'll give it a shot, Patti.

  7. I'll pass, Patti. But it sounds like fun. I'm looking forward to seeing what folks come up with.

  9. I'm game. I've been doing one of these a week since January. Great practice.

By the way, have you ever listened to The Drabblecast, Patti? It centers on such little stories.

  10. I'll check it out, Loren. Trying to not write a poem, which is what one is prone to do with that word count.

  11. One from me: http://blindenmuth.wordpress.com/2012/06/03/drabble-challenge-fallen-lollipop-recession-blues-in-b-minor/

I can also add some Snubnose titles to the prizes.

  12. Another great one, Brian. You guys can turn them out so quickly and well. Mine, so far, sound like poetry-albeit bad poetry.
I try to put a comment on there, Brian but I have finally reached a saturation point on how many passwords/sighins I can remember. I can't add comments on half the places I go now. An ebook would be great. And I wouldn't have to mail it!

Actually, your post, this drabble challenge, encouraged me to start a weekly challenge called "Drabble Diet" at my website : http://blackandwhiteheart.wordpress.com/2012/06/04/drabble-diet-100-word-frenzy-1/

Would be very honored to have you there. :)

  21. Patti, glad the drabbles provided some inspiration! Well, it would be churlish if I didn't do one. I have to admit that those pictures do little for me, but I'm sure I'll manage!

  22. Do whatever you like instead, Rob.

I needed something to get me going. Not so easy, I found.

  23. I put one up here.

I find the key to getting one done is to have something else you're supposed to be doing...

  26. Well, it's one way of getting things done, Paul.

I think I'm going to wait till the sixteenth and read all the links a the same time. Should be fun!

  27. I've been doing 100 word bits over at Lily Childs' Feardom for last year and a half. I should be able to come up with something here... it might be a little dark though.

  28. This sounds awesome, Patti. Once I'm done working on my Watery Grave Invitational piece, this will be next on my hit parade (no pun intended).

  29. Great, Kathy. Hope you can fit it in.
