Love Thompson, and love this. Great post, Patti! A universally acknowleged genius on the guitar, but his songwriting is top notch as well, as evidenced by this sly anti-war rocker.
He was a large part of the reason Fairport Convention did Dylan songs better than Dylan did...and he helped them do Joni Mitchell songs about as well as she did.
And now he manages to find the good in Britney Spears songs.
Quite aside from his own songwriting, which is indeed frequently stellar.

I'm also a Richard Thompson song -- his solo stuff, the songs with Linda, and the Fairport Convention. I don't know this song, but really enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteI've been a fan since Shoot Out the Lights.
ReplyDeleteThis performance is one of my favorites and one of my favorite tunes by him.
ReplyDeleteI bought two of his live CDs for my library: 1000 years of popular music and Live from Austin, Texas
Richard and Linda's kid, Teddy Thompson, has a fantastic singing voice and has done 3-4 great albums.
I loved Linda too. Will check out Teddy. Thanks!
