I took today off from work ( knowing I'd be on the Internet all day if I went in) and aside from two hours today working at a poll have the day free. I have tried to come up with a relaxing movie to take my mind off of well, you know.What movie would you choose to take the stress off? I would have chosen Pillow Talk if I could have found it.

I used to watch "Harold and Maude" all the time but my tape finally wore out and I don't own anything in DVD. "Ferris Bueller" will do it for me but I am really busy today with non-campaign (writerly) things.

ReplyDeleteI know your idea was for a nice, easy-going movie to watch. If that's the case, I prefer long BBC adaptations of classic literature. This past spring, they ran all of Jane Austen's films on consecutive Sundays.
However, I usually prefer to channel the stress into exciting movies. Thus, I'd likely watch Raiders of the Lost Ark, Die Hard, Terminator 2, etc.

2 Richard Farnsworth flicks: The Grey Fox, & his final film,The Straight Story. They are quiet movies; beautifully photographed, with interesting characters.

ReplyDeleteSome of these I've never seen: The Princess Bride,for instance. Woody Allen always works. Love those Farnsworth movies. Never saw Hope Floats either. Never saw The Shootist. Never saw Jungle Book. Boy, for someone who watches two movies or more a week, I've missed a few. Animal House would be fun. I wonder if my library is open today. The Great Escape would get me too excited with Steve McQueen in it.

ReplyDeleteOh, boy, I loved that movie (Mama Mia). I know a lot of people didn't, but I felt buoyant after it. That's what I'll watch if my guy loses.

ReplyDeleteOh, Saturday Night. I loved that movie and haven't thought of it in years. Now I love some Westerns but they would never make me relax. Funny how guys seem to relax with action movies but not women. Reach for the Sky-totally a new one.
You didn't really need to be nervous...but, then, I'm usually right about this kind of thing...so I can reassure myself, but there's no reason for others to be reassured. HIS GIRL FRIDAY and THE CANDIDATE would make a good double-feature.
ReplyDeleteFor "escapism"--well, the two good "high" fantasy films of the last coupla years, STARDUST and EVER AFTER, might well go along with THE PRINCESS BRIDE...the "contemporary"/"low"/"urban" fantasy STRANGER THAN FICTION (that would go well with ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND...)...
ReplyDeleteReach For The Sky is the bio of Battle of Britain fighter pilot Douglas Bader. He lost his legs in a flying accident before the war and the movie follows his rehab and fight to fly again. He was shot down over Germany and the British had to 'drop' a new pair of tin legs into the hospital grounds. Bader then escaped from the hospital, was recaptured and imprisoned in Colditz Castle.
